Cold Weather Candy Craft!

My friend Melissa sent me these great shots of her daughter and friend making lollipops, inspired by our book Candy Aisle Crafts. The lollipops are almost as cute as the girls! I love the rainbow and letter pops that they thought up.  Lollipop-making is the perfect stuck-indoors winter activity!

Boo Cake on Dinner: A Love Story!

Boo Cake on Dinner: A Love Story!

We are so honored that our BOO cake was featured on Dinner: A Love Story! I'm guessing that, like me,  you guys are already big fans of Jenny Rosenstrach's excellent blog about mastering the family meal. I bought her first book, Dinner: A Love Story and flagged almost every page! The recipes are all excellent but I have to admit that I didn't cook as many of the recipes that I had hoped. I just don't quite have the weeknight dinner routine down. That said, I feel like her new book Dinner: The Playbook, was written just for me!

Gummy Candy Chapter

Gummy Candy Chapter

As I mentioned in an earlier post about ourmarshmallow chapter opener, we were so lucky to have Robin Rosenthal design our book. Here is a peek at the gummy candy chapter opener that she designed! This chapter opener photo is composed mostly of spice drops (gumdrops' smaller cousin) with a few cut up gumdrops in there. Size is not their only difference between these two candies. Gumdrops are fruit-flavored and spice drops are, well, spicier with flavors like clove, anise, etc. Both make an excellent crafting material!

Triangle Cake Decoration

Triangle Cake Decoration

While melting lots of candy for the book, I experimented with cutting through warm candy with kitchen shears while it was still on parchment. (This is hot work for adults only!) Triangles are an easy shape to cut and they make an pretty and graphic cake decoration. They'd also work as Christmas trees for a holiday cake decoration or lollipops.

An Introduction!

An Introduction!

I started this blog without really introducing myself, or Amy Forbes, my friend, photographer, and Super Make It partner-in-crime. My name is Jodi Levine and I am a mom of two boys, wife, lifelong crafter and designer-stylist-editor. For over 19 years, I was a craft editor at Martha Stewart Living and the editorial director of Martha Stewart Kids. I met Amy while working for Martha Stewart where she was a food editor. You can read more about her over here or check out her beautiful blog, Eclectic Mom.....

Marshmallow Birds

Marshmallow Birds

These marshmallow birds are one of the projects in the marshmallow chapter in our book. I had created many marshmallow crafts over the years and when I started on the marshmallow chapter I was afraid I had already made everything there was to be made out of marshmallows. After I started playing I realized that the possibilities were endless. I would have been happy to do a whole book of marshmallow crafts!

Marshmallow Chapter!

Marshmallow Chapter!

We were lucky enough to have the smart and talented Robin Rosenthal design our book. She knew that Amy and I wanted typography created out of the actual materials and crafted projects from the book and she conceived inspired chapter openers that did just that. Above is the shot she art directed for the marshmallow chapter opener.
