Recycled Craft Ideas from our New Kitchen!

First, I should say that I’ve stretched the definition of the word “craft” in the title of this post. The items here, vases, planters, and organizing containers, are simply plucked from the recycle bin, so, no real crafting!! (Unless you count label-removal…and by the way, Goo Gone and very hot water work well for this!) But Earth Day is coming up and it’s the perfect time to take a fresh look at your recycle bin to see what you can reuse!

I had collected LOTS of colored plastic containers for a recycled craft story for The New York Times for Kids, which I then turned into animals. (You can see them here, here, and here.) I couldn’t part with the extras, so they’re slowly making their way around the house! This group was perfect for serving as vases or planters in my kitchen window.

I also save metal tins like this pizza sauce can and dried mustard can, perfect for holding small brushes and metal cocktail straws.

This little anchovy tin lives on my spice shelf/chalkboard message area and holds blank cards for writing notes and lists! You can see more shots of our kitchen here .
Do you use recycled containers for any of your craft (or organizing) projects? If so, please tag me @supermakeit so I can see! xo
