I was thrilled to contribute to today’s New York Times for Kids section! This issue is mostly dedicated to coronavirus’s impact on kids and advice for dealing with life in isolation. For example, if your craft supplies are running low, the newspaper itself will provide all the materials you need for a fun meditative origami project, paper cranes!

The New York Times for Kids is included with the print edition on the last Sunday of every month and it is always fantastic!

I’ve always loved using newspaper for oversized paper crafts and was thrilled to make these GIANT cranes! To start, make a square out of a sheet of newspaper (or any paper) by folding the sheet diagonally in half, bringing the top left corner down to meet the bottom edge, and trim off extra.

For your leftover newspaper, here are some painted newspaper crafts I made for Handmade Charlotte.

Painting the newspaper not only looks pretty but also makes the paper stiffer, helping you get crisper folds.

If you can’t get the paper, there are plenty of great instructions online! If you try it, please post a picture and tag me @supermakeit so I can see your creation! xo
