Assembling a gift kit is a great solution if you are stuck for a gift idea...or want to give something special that doesn’t feel like it’s right-off-the-shelves but don't have time to hand-make something.
These gift ideas are for the creative kids on your holiday shopping list. The items may seem basic, but when paired with one or two other things, become a simple (but fun!) craft or activity kit! Make sure to check out my first gift kits post and imaginative play gift kit post for more ideas!

GIFT 1: PROJECT KID: CRAFTS THAT GO by Amanda Kingloff + craft supplies

Project Kid: Crafts That Go! is one of those books so packed with ideas that you find something new to love every time you pick it up! (I’m looking at you, paper towel tube airplane control tower!) Author Amanda Kingloff, former lifestyle director of Parents Magazine (and a dear friend!), also wrote the super fun/cute/must-have book Project Kid: : 100 Ingenious Crafts for Family Fun !
Not only will the train/plane/car-obsessed kids love this book but any kid into crafting or imaginative play …and wrapping it up with some of the essential supplies and tools would make a dreamy gift! Assorted washi tapes and a mini hot glue gun are useful in many of the projects. Amanda uses all kinds of (mostly household) items to make wheels for her handmade vehicles, but a bag of wooden discs are an easy option. Paper straws and pipe cleaners are needed for a few of the crafts, and especially for one of my favorite projects in the book, the DIY Erector Set! (Click on the photos above to purchase)

GIFT 2: PICTURE PIE by Ed Emberley + art supplies

I am just such a huge fan of Ed Emberley’s books that I include one in every gift guide! They are great for artists of any age as well as anyone who is insecure about their drawing ability or in need of a little creative nudge. Picture Pie offers a way in to creating art in a fun and very un-intimidating way (just as his thumbprint art and how-to drawing books do) by showing the reader how to create art by collaging simple shapes, genius!

I am wrapping this book up with a set of circle craft punches, a set of round stickers, and assorted origami paper (for punching as well as collaging).

GIFT 3: FELT CHARM NECKLACE KIT from Fair Play Projects + scissors + extra materials

Fair Play Projects make the CUTEST projects, patterns, and kits. They’re so beautifully packaged, too, that you don’t want to fully open them…but of course you will, because the projects are so much fun!

I will be wrapping up this sweet kit with a good pair of scissors and a set of their beautiful wool felt for additional crafting!

GIFT 4: THE LEGO IDEAS BOOK by Daniel Lipkowitz + a set of basic bricks + baseplate

We are BIG Lego fans here, and as much as we love the Lego building kits, I prefer the open-ended creating that happens with a pile of basic bricks! If your kids need some building ideas, tips and tricks, as my kids sometimes did, you can wrap up the fun Lego Ideas Book with a set of basic bricks and a classic green baseplate to build on!

And below are a few extra gift idea add-ons for your creative kid!

I hope these ideas are helpful….and happy shopping and gifting!
