A Thanksgiving Activity Your Kids Will Love...And it Doubles as a Decoration!

Don’t throw out that Halloween candy yet! (Wait, would you actually throw out candy? Me neither!) Keep your kids busy before Thanksgiving making these fruit turkeys out of apples, oranges, and leftover candy! The turkeys also make a cute table decoration (gang a few up on a cakestand on top of some fall leaves). I made these for The Week Junior and you can download the full instructions on their site here!

The candy corn tail feathers and gumdrop head were poked onto toothpicks and then into the apple. Use a toothpick to poke holes (which exposes the sticky interior) and press the eyes into the holes. I used black nonpareils, black sesame seeds, or poppy seeds for eyes!

Golden berries, grapes, and caramels all make good turkey heads. To add sliced almond tail feathers, use a paring knife (with adult help) to make slits in the fruit body and slide in the almonds. Almond slices (and almond slivers) also make great beaks!

I hope you and your kids will try this fun craft. Happy Thanksgiving!
