Fun and Easy Valentine Crafts Made From Recycle Bin Items!

If you’re here, you probably know that I love to make stuff out of materials found in the recycle bin…and, of those, my absolute favorites are toilet tubes! In fact, I have a whole book of toilet tube crafts called Toilet Tube Treasury! Surprise your Valentine and decorate their room with this toilet tube heart garland from the book! (Or a tube heart necklace, see below!)

SUPPLIES
• Template, below, also on page 55 of my book, Toilet Tube Treasury
• Toilet and/or paper towel tubes
• Gesso (optional, for brighter color)
• Craft paint
• Scissors
• Large sewing needle
• Bakery twine or string

INSTRUCTIONS
1. If desired, prime tubes with gesso; let dry. Then paint; let dry.
2. Flatten the tubes, place the template on top, and cut out the heart shape, leaving the sides of the heart intact.
3. Arrange the hearts in the order and spacing that you’d like. Cut a piece of twine long enough to span the hearts plus a few extra inches on either side. Thread your needle with the twine and poke it through both sides of each heart. Slide each heart down and add the next until you’re done!

I took some of the hearts I made for the garlands and hot-glued the bottom closed to make this Heart Pocket Necklace! You can give one to your sweetheart with a little candy or toy tucked inside. I popped one of my homemade finger puppets in there.

FYI, the finger puppets are made with a really easy, no-knit technique…using, of all things, a TOILET TUBE! Instructions here!
