Quick Gift Idea: Turn Your Favorite Book Into a Holiday Gift Kit!

Celebrate-Everything-Darcy-Miller

Books are one of my favorite gifts to give (and receive!). If I want to make the gift of a book more personal/unique/custom, I’ll assemble a kit or a themed group of gifts inspired by it, and wrap it up together. Whether you are stuck for a gift idea...or want to give a special, not right-off-the-shelves gift but don't have time to hand-make something, it is super helpful to use a great book as a jumping off point! The gift kit idea works particularly well, as you can imagine, with a DIY book, like a cook or craft book since you can pair it with tools, materials, or ingredients but it can work with just about any book!

GIFT 1: CELEBRATE EVERYTHING by Darcy Miller + GOLD PARTY SUPPLIES!
Darcy’s book, Celebrate Everything (above), is a MUST HAVE if you like throwing creative parties for any occasion. It is not only gorgeous but packed with ideas and inspiration. Every time I pick it up I find little tips and ideas that I missed. Darcy has a store on Amazon, so it was easy to choose a few things that would be nice to wrap up with her book. I picked gold items from her Party Supplies section, since I figured they’d work for most occasions but, of course, any party supplies would work! GIFT 2: FIND YOUR ARTISTIC VOICE by Lisa Congdon + ART SUPPLIES

Find Your Artistic Voice was written by artist, illustrator, and author Lisa Congdon, I’m a fan of everything from her hand-lettering and pattern design to a class she gave on time management for creatives on CreativeLive…come to think of it, that would be a FANTASTIC gift to bundle with this book! This book is on my own wish list, so I can’t speak about it yet, but I have high hopes! If I were to give it as a gift, I’d wrap it up with some art supplies that make sense for the recipient depending upon their passion: a watercolor set or a nice set of pencils or markers. Alternatively, a few items from Lisa’s shop like her pencils…or pencil washi tape (both below) would be a sweet addition. (Click on photos to buy.)

GIFT 3: EVERY DAY IS SATURDAY cookbook by Sarah Copeland + cookie ingredients

Every Day is Saturday, by Sarah Copeland, is as gorgeous (photos by Gentl + Hyers!) as it is practical! I love Sarah’s manifesto, that everyday meals can and should be special. Buy if for all the recipes and strategies but especially for her CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE FOR MODERN TIMES RECIPE! I mean, as a chocolate chip cookie obsessed person, it’s hard to get me to veer from the classic recipe but this one was worth it! Also, the addition of almond flour makes me feel like I’m eating something virtuous! So, wrap up this book with some almond flour, nice bittersweet chocolate, and flaky sea salt and you have a dreamy gift!

GIFT 4: YUM YUMMY YUCK by Cree Lane and Amanda Jane Jones + matching tote and romper

Yum Yummy Yuck Gift

For the tiny pre-DIY crowd, a book and something cute (and matching!) to wear while reading or being read to is a dreamy gift! And you can give it in a matching tote! I love Amanda Jane Jones’s design and illustration…and following along with her cute family on Instagram…and was so excited to see the new sweet new book she co-wrote with her husband, Cree Lane, YUM YUMMY YUCK! This gift combo is a no-brainer; Amanda collaborated with one of my FAVORITE brands, Winter Water Factory. (my boys lived in WWF when they were little!!) to make the cutest clothes and accessories so I am excited to gift the book with the cute romper below and tuck them both into a tote!

GIFT 4: CELEBRATE EVERYTHING by Jenny Rosenstrach . + baking and party supplies

How To Celebrate Everything

I’m a huge fan of Jenny Rosenstrach’s, How to Celebrate Everything. It’s got more than enough tempting recipes for a solid cookbook but also full of fun-to-read family anecdotes and lifestyle inspiration. Jenny's recipes are never intimidating but still, following her and trying her recipes has helped me up my game in the kitchen (thanks also to her blog and first two cookbooks! And, for those who need extra help to get out of a dinner rut, a special shout out to her 2nd cookbook, Dinner: The Playbook!) On top of all that, Jenny is such a great storyteller! Her funny and touching anecdotes will inspire you to try the recipes and customs and weave them into your own (existing or newly invented) holidays, special occasions, and any day to help....you know, CELEBRATE EVERYTHING!
I suggest wrapping it up with a few items inspired by Jenny’s “birthday box” featured in the book with all the essentials for an impromptu celebration: sprinkles, candles, food coloring, cupcake papers, twine, and sanding sugars! (click pictures below to buy) Group everything in a lightweight wooden tray or a plastic bin!
